Sixty years ago Fidelis Wasinger and other members of the community organized the Cunningham Fire Protection District to protect their family and neighbors. The Cunningham family donated the land for the first firehouse. This agency has constantly been improving and evolving ever since. We laid Chief Wasinger to rest this year. The fire district he started is still on the go, every hour of everyday.
Our firefighters are aggressive when attacking a fire and rescuing the entrapped. They find a balance between safety and the danger of the job, carefully considering the safety of the citizens and themselves. That is risk management in action. Medically, they are technically able, some of the best in the region, but our firefighters and administrative staff are also caring and compassionate. They are active members in the community, teaching children, parents, and seniors about fire and injury prevention. They are masters in the art of communication and project their considerate attitude.
We continue to work with other organizations to make our community safer in the most cost effective manner. We have been affected by the same economical downturn as the rest of the country. During 2010 we reverted to our 2007 budget level and held to that same budget for 2011. The employees agreed not to take a salary increase so we could keep as many firefighters out there doing the job as possible. The District has not asked for an increased taxation since 1995 and we continue to search for grants and other revenue sources.
Our personnel are very involved in our industry at the local, regional, state, and national level. Working to export influence, while importing information, new concepts, technology on the horizon, and revenue through our networking. We are constantly improving ourselves through collaborative trainings and updating equipment. I am honored to work with the men and women of the Cunningham Fire Protection District who are dedicated to keeping you and your family safe.
